Fear of Artificial Intelligence in the Context of Tolerance of Uncertainty and Ambiguity

Abstract

Modern humans are increasingly and more frequently surrounded by devices and tools based on artificial intelligence. This new situation generates conflicting emotions and attitudes, ranging from hope and fascination to fear and a sense of threat. A significant dichotomy emerges in current discussions, oscillating between the possibility of intelligent tools to improve the quality of human life and the fear of their uncontrollable decisions and actions. Therefore, conducting empirical research in determining the significance of the further development of artificial intelligence and its impact on human life is now becoming ‘the most important conversation of our time’ (Tegmark). This article presents the results of a study that aimed to determine the relationship between fear of AI and uncertainty tolerance. A total of 319 individuals, diverse in terms of sociodemographic characteristics, participated in the study.
