Parenting a Child With Autism Spectrum Disorder From the Perspective of Experienced Mourning

Abstract

The nature of the article is theoretical. Its aim is to present contemporary research on grief experienced by parents of children with autism spectrum, and to frame this process within the perspective of pedagogy, referring to life in accordance with values. The grief is presented  in the context of multiple losses experienced by the parent, from both existential and socio-cultural perspective, as significant factors influencing its complexity, multiplicity and recurrence. The article also includes proposals for supporting parents, with particular emphasis on adult learning as an opportunity for personal development, which is also significant for the quality of life of the child on the autism spectrum.
