Pandemic, War and “Lifelong Learning”: Life Lessons of Some Ukrainians Living in Poland

Abstract

The article answers questions about life lessons connected with receiving and giving social support during the COVID-19 and war-refugee crises, as well as the differences and similarities in the content of these lessons for Ukrainian immigrants and war refugees in Poland. To answer these questions, qualitative longitudinal studies were conducted. The data analysis was carried out in relation to the concepts of lifelong learning (informal/incidental education), social support (types and areas), personal transcendence, self-improvement and intercultural integration. The paper shows how the support received in a crisis contributes to transcendence and self-improvement towards giving support, and as a result, fuller intercultural integration.
