The Socio-Economic Determinants of School Success of Children from Migrant Families in Germany

Abstract

This article examines selected aspects of the socioeconomic situation of families with a migrant background living in the Federal Republic of Germany in the context of their children’s academic performance. The study examines the determinants of school success for children from migrant families in light of the concept of resilience , which was adopted in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). In this article, selected elements of the socioeconomic and sociocultural situation (social and cultural capital) are illustrated with the results of statistical research conducted in Germany. This analysis may contribute to predicting the future school success of children from migrant families.
