Specificum Paedagogicum of the Institute of Pedagogy at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin

Abstract

The main focus of this article is to describe the specific nature of the Institute of Pedagogy at The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin as a scientific environment. This specificity – the specificum paedagogicum referred to in the title – is described in terms of its material object, i.e. what constitutes its area of research and teaching interest, and in formal object, i.e. what constitutes its perspective on the reality being studied (Kamiński, 1998), which is also referred to in the article as the axionormative dimension. An important part of the article is the presentation of the axi-onormtative dimension of the Institute of Pedagogy of The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, which comes down to three issues: pedagogical realism, personalist perspective and inte-gral education.
