The Importance of Empathy in a Teacher’s Work

Abstract

In the context of clearly noticeable sociocultural changes, largely determined by the development of new technologies, empathy becomes an issue of great importance. It facilitates understanding others and living not only with them, but also for them. This attitude is particularly important for teachers, who should not only share knowledge and experience with their students, but above all surround them with love that calls for sacrifice and understanding of others. The reflection was focused on the following issues: empathy in student–teacher relations,  empathy in the perspective of essential values of human life, the relationship between empathy and burnout, practical aspects of developing empathy in teachers, the role of Catholic universities in educating empathetic teachers.
