The System of Values and Value Crisis in Men Opting for Marriage or Priesthood

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this paper is to analyze the differences in value systems of men who want to get married and those who have consciously chosen living in solitude - as priests.

Methods: P. Brzozowski’s Scheler’s Value Scale, P. Oles’s Value Crisis Questionnaire were applied in the research.

The project included 100 participants - the experimental group comprised 50 students of the theological college and the control group consisted of 50 students of the university.

Results. The study shows significant differences between the systems of values in the two researched groups. The students of the theological college value: God, faith, Salvation and eternal life. Studies suggest that the important values for men determined to get married are those related to prosperous life, pleasure and joy of life. The experimental group do not differ significantly in terms of preference of moral values and the values of secularism.
