Spiritual direction in the relationship of Bl. Fr. Michael Sopocko and St. S. Faustina is a clear example of the effective cooperation of God, the spiritual director, and the person benefiting form the service. The Saint’s confessor has shown three stages of spiritual development, discovery, and fulfillment of God’s will. The first is to keep external precepts and laws in which God’s will is revealed. The second is to discover, discern, and follow inner inspirations. The third is to put ourself at God’s total and unconditional disposal. At each stage, the desire of self-offering as a sacrifice, like Jesus Christ, increases. The role of the spiritual director is also increasing, who not only supports the discernment of God's will, assists in recognizing the deception of the enemy of the soul, helps to avoid mistakes, supports in difficult experiences and times of trials, but also helps in choosing the best way to implement God’s plans. The purpose of this article is to provide practical guidance and ways to apply them in spiritual direction to the service-giver and the person taking benefits from this form of assistance on the way of sanctification.
