Psychopedagogical Aspects of the Prenatal Bond Analysis Method

Abstract

This article presents the method of prenatal bond analysis developed in the 1990s, by the Hungarian psychoanalysts Jenő Raffai and György Hidas. The method is a short-term psychoanalytic intervention that aims to develop the relationship between parents and prenatal child, and to prepare parents and child psychologically for childbirth. The article discusses the origins of the method and the psychoanalytic and psychopedagogical perspectives on issues such as the prenatal analysis process, prenatal bonding, analysis of stressors in pregnancy, analytical communication, emotions in pregnancy, mental representations of motherhood, fatherhood and mental representations of the child. In the summary, aspects of the prenatal bond analysis method are presented that, according to the author, are significant for the psychopedagogical discourse.
