War as Drama

Abstract

This article examines selected examples of contemporary Polish drama as depictions of wartime imagery related to events of the past. These depictions hold a unique status, allowing for the preservation of memory and truth about the past while also enabling its transformation or reinterpretation in the context of contemporary events. Thus, dramatized representations of wartime experiences serve various functions: they may revise or redefine images of the past by assigning them new meanings, or they may transfigure selected images or motifs, enabling new models and ways of interpreting history.

Keywords:

contemporary Polish drama, dramatic and theatrical practices, representations of war
