Ways of Supporting National and Cultural Identity in German Minority Education

Abstract

One of the goals set in the core curriculum for minority language education in Poland is to reinforce the learner’s sense of national identity. In the current age of globalization, there is the question of the teaching environment that will support identity formation. Using the example of German minority language teaching in Poland, this article attempts to lay the theoretical groundwork for supporting national-cultural identity using a self-designed model. The complex identity make-up of the Silesian region, where the German minority is most numerous, is included in the present considerations.
