Neologisms in Different Shades: Some Remarks on the Italian e-Verbs

Abstract

The paper is an attempt to describe the Italian e-verbs, i.e. single lexical units that are thematically, semantically and contextually related to communication mediated by computer and e-technology (interaction with the new medium and the web, between social media users and between online RPG players), combining in their structure elements of foreign origin with endogenic morphemes. The study focuses on the identification and description of features indicating the neological character of these innovations and aims to gradate the neologicity of individual groups of e-verbs.
