Enlightened Preaching in the Context of Academic Theology and the Doctrine of Justification

Matthias von Kriegstein

Abstract

The author explains his understanding of an enlightened academic theology regarding homiletic aspects. He sets up three thesisses: Firstly this kind of theology works in an general academic understandable way. It is related to functions and structures of faith and religious ways of life as well. Secondly homiletics and preaching take aim at salutary and solidary practise of life. Thirdly the doctrine of justification is part of implicit theological behaviour and explicit topic of preaching. It’s enlightened reflection shows it’s connection with basic processes of communication and learning. So it gives impulses to didactics of homiletic education in preaching and feedback-culture. This kind of theology makes an understandable offer for interpretation of religion and values in various contexts and could be a basic element for intercultural and inter-religious dialogues. The following practice can help to improve the spiritual and social life of people in their environment.

academic theology, homiletics, sermon, doctrine of justification, symbol, hermeneutics, elementary theology, community, parish, poor people, conciliary process, micropreaching, feedback partnerships, intercultural and intereligious dialogue
