Abstract

The article addresses a topic that has not been explored in linguistic research yet. The introduction opens with a discussion of the characteristics of the organist profession. The attention is then drawn to the lack of consensus among researchers regarding the application of the terms “jargon”, “professiolect”, etc. for the nomination of unofficial language of professional and social groups. The term “jargon” was adopted for the purposes of the article. The source of the discussed research was both the author’s proprietary knowledge and consultations with organists. The article distinguishes and discusses seven subject classes identified in this paper. The author provides numerous examples and, in many cases, semantisation. Referring to the material, an attempt was made to formulate the function of the organist jargon. In addition to the functions commonly mentioned when discussing jargon, the article also indicates distancing from the serious nature of the profession and difficult moments in work.
