Wilhelm Osburg (1859–1929) – Pedagogical Activity in Silesia

Abstract

The article presents the pedagogical activity of Wilhelm Osburg (1859-1929) in Silesia from a broad perspective. He came from Thuringia, but he devoted his entire professional life to Silesia. He worked as a teacher in teachers’ seminars and the so-called preparatory courses (German: Präparanden). Although he worked in several towns, his most fruitful time was in Głuchołazy, where his superior was Karl Leopold Heinze (1828-1905). It resulted in numerous textbooks for conducting classes in singing, violin playing, organ playing and music theory. These publications were very popular in pedagogy at that time, as evidenced by their numerous editions and versions.
