Revolution Arm in Arm With Homeland? The Theme of The Communist Party of Poland in Polish Prose Fiction of the Interwar Period: Introduction

Abstract

In the political science and historical research fictional records are not considered – as a rule – to be an appropriate tool for spreading visions and evaluations of Polish communism. In the article it is “a story” which has been treated as a memory space and a way to break through to the discredited symbolic universe. Literary descriptions of socialization processes, motivation and feelings of party members – it is assumed – may help to re-create the discarded image. The first aim of the article was to present the theme of The Polish Communist Party (KPP) and the motif of a communist against the background of stories written between 1918 and 1929. Then an attempt was made to characterize the phenomenon. The article is a reconstruction and reconnaissance – a kind of introduction to broader issues and interpretations, taking into account the period of 1919–1969.

Keywords:

an image of a communist, communism, the Polish Communist Party in literature, motif, thread
