Didactics of Professional Translation in Dutch Foreign Language Teaching Based on the Waterlot Model

Abstract

The results of the Taalunie translation survey carried out in 2022 at university departments of Dutch worldwide show that language and translation teachers are in need of didactic guidelines and practical tools for professional translation in Dutch Foreign Language Teaching and the development of teaching methods, including for courses with new techniques such as machine translation. In this contribution, the Waterlot model is presented to show how it can be applied for, for example, the preparation of a translation class with tourist web texts in the Master’s programme in Dutch Philology Studies.
