Obstacles in Translating Legal Texts and the Didactics of Legal Translation

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the obstacles encountered in translating legal texts and their implications for the didactics of legal translation. The first section attempts to define legal language and its characteristics while presenting the prerequisites for a successful legal translation. The second section describes various difficulties in translating legal texts, particularly court rulings and judicial decisions. The third section examines the implications for specialized translation didactics using the didactic model of Van Gelder et al. The conclusion presents an overview of the key competencies that, according to the author, are essential for legal translation.
