Developing Reading Proficiency of Students of Polish Schools Abroad: How Reading Programs Are Implemented in Schools and Other Forms of Education Abroad That Teach Polish)

Abstract

This review and methodological article concerns the formation of reading habits and attitudes, taking into account the specific nature of the education of children and young people in Polish educational institutions operating in Europe, providing Polish language instruction to Poles and Poles living abroad and children of migrant workers. The author looks at educational documents, selected textbooks and reading programs implemented in Polish schools, e.g. in Finland, Denmark, Great Britain. Sample activities and working methods that develop students’ creativity and critical thinking skills are presented, which support teaching classes that cater to the diverse educational needs of Polish school students with a bilingual experience.
