The Heritage of the Discourse of the Period of Transformation in Polish as a Document of Experience and the Formation of Social Attitudes

Abstract

The article organizes and characterizes the linguistic units that constitute the heritage of the discourses of 1989-2004 (i.e. the narrowly understood period of systemic transformation in Poland) in the Polish language. The material excerpted from linguistic studies proves that the collective memory has stored mainly those expressions that formed in the 1990s the discourses of struggle, political fight and ethical. The evolution of these discourses, noted in the vocabulary, runs in the direction of the polarization of social attitudes and the resulting anxiety associated with the observed disintegration of the community. The second aspect of the description is the confrontation of linguistic data with information from the studies of sociologists and art and literature critics. In this perspective, systemic transformation is presented as a relatively important but not dominant aspect of social experience, values and culture.
