This paper proposes a cognitively oriented analysis of the differences in the use of the Italian prepositions in and dentro, which are often interchangeable and, in some contexts, can co-occur (essere dentro nel bar, essere dentro nella politica). The study focuses both prepositions on the perceptual dimension – that is, on how the spatial relationship between objects is perceived within a scene – and on the conceptual dimension, understood as the process through which linguistic units render this relationship interpretable. This approach allows for the identification of usage constraints for each preposition and the reconstruction of their associated perceptual patterns, assuming that perception influences conceptualization. In this sense, the choice of preposition reflects different conceptualization of the same perceived scene.
