Chicago’s “Teacher’s Voice” (1986-2015) as “A Womens World”

Abstract

This article presents the functioning of the editorial office of the “Teacher’s Voice” published in Chicago, which is the only educational title published in the US from 1986 to 2015. It was created on the basis of research conducted during trips to the US, analysis of the quarterly's content and the literature on the subject. In the course of collecting and compiling the collected material, methods from the borderline of history and press studies were used. The purpose of the conducted research was to answer the question of how the editorial board functioned; what were the characteristics of its activities; who physically “created” the magazine. It was found that the main effort put into the functioning of the title was borne by female editors and teachers, who constituted the entire editorial team and the vast majority of the authors of the papers published in its pages. It was established that they were the ones who gave direction to the work of the quarterly and were the authors of the vast majority of the papers posted in it.
