The Social Dimension of Christian Love in the Encyclicals Dilexit Nos, Deus Caritas Est and Caritas in Veritate

Abstract

The article explores the social dimension of love in the teachings of Popes Francis and Benedict XVI, using their encyclicals Dilexit nos, Deus Caritas est, and Caritas in Veritate. The research aims to reveal Christian love as a foundation for a just and solidaristic society, justified by its relevance to contemporary social challenges. Methodologically, the article employs critical textual analysis and comparative evaluation of core concepts. The structured analysis uncovers the unique contributions of each Pope: Francis’s emphasis on the heart as a source of social love and Benedict’s focus on love intertwined with truth and justice. The findings highlight Christian love as a unifying force for social justice and personal responsibility.
