Ancient Wisdom in the Works of Cervantes: Orality and Wisdom in Golden Age Spain

Abstract

This article explores the criteria of truth, knowledge and tradition in Spain during its Golden Age (so-called Siglo de Oro) in the light of the work of Miguel de Cervantes, particularly the examples cited in Exemplary Novels and Don Quixote, and through comparisons with the classical and wisdom elements that formed part of the conceptual repertoire of 17th century Spain.
