On Unfinished Revolutions in Pokora by Szczepan Twardoch

Abstract

Based on the assumption of the philosophy Alan Badious and Georges Batailles that the revolution of the symbolic order has not been brought to a conclusion, but only the symbolic representations of power and the division of social roles have changed, the article will analyse the attempts of „belated“ performative actions of men and women in Szczepan Twardoch’s novel Pokora, set in spaces that do not conform to the prevailing national-ideological framework (Upper Silesia of the First World War period) and in a period of liminal political-ideological and social changes with a particular focus on the significance of gender differentiations.

Keywords:

Szczepan Twardoch, revolutions, political-ideological transformations, neo-tribalism
