Ukraine is Not Russia: Polish Perception of the Russian-Ukrainian War (Illustrated by Polish Journalistic Publications)

Abstract

The main subject of this paper is the analysis of Polish journalism concerning the Russian-Ukrainian war with respect to how the events in Ukraine are being perceived in Poland. It has been found that Polish journalists are generally very well acquainted with both the Ukrainian reality and the realities of the ongoing war. The authors of the analysed publications hed some light on the war operations, gathered information on Russian war crimes in Ukraine, analysed the situation of Ukrainian refugees, and documented the suffering of Ukrainian children. Much attention was also devoted to Russian-Ukrainian relations, Ukrainian national identity and unmasking Russian lies and manipulation. Also, it is worth looking at Polish-Ukrainian relations and the aid provided to Ukraine by both the Polish state and the Poles themselves. In the author’s opinion, the analysed publications constitute excellent information material, allowing Poles to learn more about Ukraine and better understand the causes of the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
