Abstract

The article explores the content of a friendship book and a selection of original poetry by Roman Szwoynicki (1845–1915) based on the artist’s archive. Moreover, the intersemiotic contexts of literary bestsellers of the era were identified, including works by Adam Mickiewicz, Antoni Pietkiewicz, Henryk Sienkiewicz, which the painter popularized in the form of illustrations and “living paintings”. The source base for the reconnaissance was the artist’s private archives and artworks, kept in the resources of the Polish Academy of Sciences Archive and the National Museum in Warsaw, the “Alka” Museum in Telšiai in Lithuania.
