The article is devoted to Bishop of the Forces Józef Gawlin and his Bishopric of the Forces (the largest in the world) and Polish military chaplains, faithfully accompanying the soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces in the West from the first (Narvik) to the last (Bologna) Polish battle in World War II. After the war, Bishop Gawlina was the Guardian (Protector) of Polish Emigration, and after demobilization, many military chaplains became pastors of Polish refugees and emigrants, organizers of religious life, animators of various forms of integration (organizers of Polish Catholic Missions, creators of numerous Polish social and cultural organizations, parishes, religious newspapers and schools), leaving behind a lasting, faithful and grateful memory among the Polish community in many countries around the world.
