Overview of the Activities of the Polish Community in Rome of the Congregation of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the Church of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Rome in the Years 1966-2012

Abstract

The article presents the activity of the Roman community of the Congregation of the Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Sercanki) during the most intensive period of the congregation’s work for the Polish diaspora, namely from 1966 to 2012. The analysis is based on previously unpublished archival sources, including the congregation’s documentation preserved in the General Archive and the General Secretariat of the Congregation of the Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Kraków, as well as in the community’s archive in Rome. The purpose of the study is to highlight the contribution of the Sercanki to the religious and social life of the Polish émigré community in the Eternal City, with particular emphasis on their involvement in pastoral work among the Polish diaspora as well as in informational and editorial activities. This topic fits within the broader research trend concerning the role of female religious congregations in the life of the Polish diaspora and emigration after the Second World War.
