Personal Parish as a Still Relevant Structure of Polish Pastoral Care in Canada

Abstract

Over time, the structures of Polish-language pastoral care in Canada have been shaped and it functions to this day. What is very characteristic of it is the fact that one of the basic institutions in these structures is personal parishes to this day, in contrast to, for example, the neighbouring United States of America, where this pastoral care is based on completely different structural solutions. In this article, referring to the example of Canada and Polish-language pastoral care, we want to confirm that a personal parish is still a valid proposal for the structures of migrant pastoral care and can provide proper pastoral care for this group of believers. The article will discuss the process of shaping the Polish community in Canada, the structures of Polish pastoral care, personal parishes in Church documents and the contemporary functioning of this type of pastoral care in Canada.
