Evolution of the Concept of Social Resilience as a Result of the Experience of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Immigration Crisis

Abstract

Social resilience is gaining increasing interest among researchers as it helps pre-pare society for various types of crisis situations. Starting from ecological threats and natural dis-asters to economic and health threats, and up to threats occurring during armed conflict. Unfortu-nately, the concept of social resilience remains heterogeneous, and its definitions are not always consistent with the intentions of the creators of this concept. The aim of the article is to review the current definitions in the literature and to indicate how contemporary researchers define social resilience. The means to achieve this goal is to review definitions of social resilience over the past five years (2019-2023) from journals indexed in the Scopus database. This review helps to show the evolution of the concept of social resilience, which is the result of the experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic, migration problems and Russia’s armed assault on Ukraine.
