From Sandomierz to the African Bush. The Zambian Mission of Rev. Marceli Prawica (1939-2017)

Abstract

The article presents biography of Rev. Marceli Prawica (1939-2017), a priest of the Sandomierz Diocese and later Radom Diocese, who for 45 years was a missionary in Zambia. He left for Africa in 1972. First he was a missionary at the Holy Trinity Parish in Kabwe, the Archdiocese of Lusaka. Then, from 1976, he served in Chingombe, one of the most difficult missions. He spent 41 years in that cut off from civilization mission post in the African bush. For 14 years he was accompanied by Archbishop Adam Kozłowiecki who following his resignation from the position of the Lusaka Metropolitan Archbishop settled in Chingombe. The article presents the circumstances of Rev. Prawica going on a mission and his missionary work history in Zambia.
