Identification and Characterization of Selected Non-Governmental Organizations Operating in the Area of Security in Poland

Abstract

Due to the dynamic development of technology and the evolving nature of threats, crisis management in Poland is becoming an increasingly complex task, requiring the cooperation of various entities. NGOs operating in the field of security can play an important role in this regard. They possess unique resources and skills both to respond to security incidents and to effect post-crisis recovery. They also deal with prevention, for example, by supporting informational and educational initiatives and conducting training programs. The activities of NGOs and cooperation with them bring many benefits but they are subject to certain limitations. The aim of this article is to assess the potential and effectiveness of utilizing entities operating in the field of security outside the public sector to carry out tasks related to crisis management. This assessment is based on the perspective of people with an experience of cooperation with such entities, including members of these organizations and individuals familiar with crisis management issues. The article is based on a survey that identified areas where selected NGOs can be more accessible and effective, which could ultimately contribute to improving crisis management in Poland.
