Abstract

Pięć zarysów [Five Sketches] is a composition that raises many editorial questions for the publisher. We have several versions of the title, the number of components of the cycle is not obvious, while the relation of the overture poem Próby [Trials] to the rest of the poems and the position of the motto are separate problems. The article presents the editorial problems associated with Pięć zarysów and hypothesises that some of the difficulties that arise here may be due to haste and imprecision in the author’s correspondence with the Brockhaus publishing house in Leipzig.
