Professor Stróżewski’s Norwid – in the context of aesthetic issues
Abstract
The aim of this article is to demonstrate the influence that Cyprian Norwid’s work had on the development of Władysław Stróżewski’s aesthetic thought. To this end, the author employs the theoretical concept of “encounter”, which includes inspiration as one of its components. Adopting this perspective has made it possible to analyse both the direct references to the works of the author of Vade-mecum appearing in Stróżewski’s writings, and to highlight general similarities in their reflections on the nature and role of art, which connect the two figures. The aesthetics of the author of Istnienie i wartości [Existence and Values] are influenced by Norwid’s thought on many different levels, primarily in terms of recognizing the axiological function of art and its desired impact on the audience.
