Abstract

This article presents an interpretation of Norwid’s late poem Na smętne wieści z Watykanu [On the Sad News from the Vatican] (1877), dedicated to Pope Pius IX. The author discusses the content of the work in the broader context of Norwid’s peculiar veneration for the pope. As part of this interpretation, the author also engages in a polemic with certain editorial solutions that Józef Fert previously proposed in relation to the poem.
