Possible Changes in the Status of Justices of the American Supreme Court in the Light of the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States

Abstract

This study is devoted to the possibility of changing the status of a justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. The impetus for undertaking this research was the creation of the committee for its reform by the US President. The issues analyzed in the study are: court-packing, the introduction of a retirement age for Supreme Court justices, the possibility of impeachment for interpreting the constitution inconsistent with the expectations of the political branches, and the need to formally cover Supreme Court justices with the ethical principles applicable to other federal judges. The analysis of these issues focuses on the constitutionality of the legal solutions proposed in the discourse and their impact on the authority and legitimacy of the Supreme Court in the light of historical experience related to attempts by politicians to influence its activities.
