A Philosophical Take on the Idea of Regenerative Sustainability

Abstract

This article describes the concept of sustainable regenerative development in philosophical terms, examining its foundations and determining the extent to which it can be translated into socio-political practice in the real world. The idea strongly aspires to restore the potential of the natural environment in the face of climate change. Its goals are not limited to simply reducing damage to Earth, as such an approach proves insufficient given objective indicators of ecosystem degradation. The major component of the concept of sustainable regenerative development is measures taken to restore nature’s vitality, while simultaneously designing reality so that all participants can benefit from species diversity and live in a safe environment that is fosters mental and material well-being. This concept is programmatically extensive as its approach to the attainment of goals, which is crucial to human survival, differs from previous types of sustainable development. However, it turns out that, despite the noble goals set by the concept, the implementation of its assumptions raises many practical concerns. The most problematic issue is the coordination of efforts in many specific areas, considering the time available to save humanity and the planet from climate catastrophe.
