Historical Outline, Role and Importance of the Chaplain – Clergy Leader in the Prison System Using the Example of the USA

Abstract

The aim of the article is to characterize the role and significance of chaplains – spiritual leaders for convicted individuals – within the process of serving an isolation-based prison sentence in the United States. Methodologically, the article takes a review-based approach and relies on an analysis of English-language sources, including selected rulings of American courts, in which the titular issue has been explored from a multidimensional perspective.
