The Medical Profession of a Feldsher in the General Government (1939-1945). Organizational and Legal Aspects

Abstract

The main aim of this article is to examine the approach of the German Reich authorities regarding feldshers in the General Government. The author analyses the organisational and legal measures implemented by German occupiers in this region. To explore this topic, sources from the National Archives in Krakow were used, particularly the content published in the official journal of the Health Chamber of the General Government during World War II, “Health and Life.” The Nazis’ perspective on the issue of feldshers may seem surprising, especially in light of the views expressed in the “reptilian press.” The article also elucidates the underlying reasons for the Germans’ actions towards members of the feldsher profession.
