The article discusses the statutory regulations regarding the tasks and functions of Bank Polski S.A., especially in the context of the bank’s independence. The text presents the historical and political situation due to its significant importance for the formation of Bank Polski S.A. and what position it was assigned in the system of the reborn Polish State and what organizational form was chosen for it. The article places particular emphasis on describing the appointment and functioning of bank authorities and their relations with the government. The last part refers to the events ending the interwar period and their impact on the functioning of the central bank of the Second Polish Republic. The author also tries to answer the question whether, given the political conditions at that time and the organizational form chosen for the central bank, it was independent as we understand it today.
