This article presents the sequences about St Lawrence in the context of a literary source showing martyrdom as liturgy. This kind of works were written in the medieval period, with the exception of the sequence of Adam of St Victor, they are anonymous. The authors of the sequences perfectly understood the spirit of the liturgy. An analysis of the works in terms of stylistic devices used, versification and content attests to this. The language of the liturgy used by the authors even today leads the viewer to the conclusion, that the figure of St Lawrence is emblematic of the truth, that the Church is the place, where everyone can be realized in full, from birth to glorious death. On the other hand, they show the figure of a noble man, faithful to his ideals, ready to give his life for them, which makes him a role model regardless of the time and era in which we live.
