The aim of this article is to show the involvement of Cardinal Aleksander Kakowski – then the Primate of the Kingdom of Poland – in striving for the independence of the Homeland. The primary source for this study is “Memoirs” written by A. Kakowski between 1927 and 1930 – their typescript is held in the Archives of the Archdiocese of Warsaw. After presenting A. Kakowski’s biography, the article describes his participation in the Regency Council.
