The article analyzes efforts to conclude a concordat between the Czech Republic and the Holy See from 1990 to the present. It describes the willingness or aversion of political representatives, the attempts to conclude an agreement with the Holy See in 2002 and 2024, the reaction of Czech society, and the ratification process. The author highlights the role played by differences in public opinion on the secularity of the Czech Republic, the role of the Church in the public sphere, and historical injustices, as well as the extent to which these factors influenced the failure of ratification in 2002 and are influencing the current ratification process following the new signing in 2024. In conclusion, the author states the need for clear communication by the Catholic Church towards other churches and society, and expresses his opinion on the necessity of such a treaty in the Czech legal system.
