On January 26, 2026, the annual meeting of pope Leo XIV with the Tribunal of the Roman Rota and its other staff took place in the Clementine Hall of the Papal Household. Following a welcoming address by the Dean of the Tribunal, the Holy Father addressed the audience. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of an ecclesiastical judge to administer „justice in truth”, respect the law, and demonstrate a profound understanding of the cases before them (beyond the purely formal dimension). He recalled that a judge, guided by independence and impartiality, should rule in accordance with the evidence disclosed during the proceedings.
