The article is an attempt to answer the question: whether unity and fidelity in marriage mean the same realities, and consequently: whether the exclusion of fidelity is the same as the exclusion of the attribute of unity of the bond. The answer is negative: the good of marital fidelity should be separated from the attribute of the unity of marriage. The exclusion of unity means that the partner excludes complete devotion to the spouse, because it is impossible to commit to fidelity to many people. However, the exclusion of marital fidelity in our monogamous environment occurs when the partner excludes the right to fidelity belonging to the partner.
