Peer Review Process

Roczniki Humanistyczneguarantees a rigorous review process according to the following principles:

1. Only papers that have been qualified by the Journal’s editors in the pre-review stage undergo peer reviewing.

2. The submitted manuscripts are evaluated fairly (fair play), exclusively on the basis of their academic merit and relevance to the scope of the Journal, without regard to the nationality, race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, citizenship, or political views of the authors.

3. Each text submitted for publication in the Roczniki Humanistyczne is evaluated by at least two independent and anonymous reviewers who are experts in the topic of the paper. Reviewers are appointed by the editor and are from institutions other than the parent unit of the author.

4. Reviewers’ work is supervised by the editor of a fascicle. Reviewers’ ethical obligations are explained in section Publication Ethics: Reviewers’ Responsibilities.

5. Roczniki Humanistyczne uses a double-blind peer review process in which authors do not know the identity of their reviewers, nor do the reviewers know the identities of the authors. Editors ensure the protection of both the authors' and the reviewers' identity.

6. Reviewers evaluate a manuscript in terms of:

  a) scientific value, originality, and relevance,
  b) clarity and correctness of objectives,
  c) methodology and argumentation coherence,
  d) clarity and correctness of conclusions,
  e) adequacy of works cited,
  f) language and style.

7. Reviewers present their opinion to editor in written form (review form in English / Polish) authenticated by their signature, as well as in electronic form. Opinion should include a definite statement of acceptance or rejection of a submitted paper for publication.

8. In case of contradictory opinions, editor may decide to refer a paper to a third reviewer. The decision of the third reviewer is final.

9. Editor presents the author with reviews without disclosing reviewers’ identity. Author of a paper is obliged to respond to reviewers’ suggestions before publishing a paper.

10.The list of reviewers is published in each issue as well as on the Roczniki Humanistyczne website, in section Reviewers.

Open Access Policy

Roczniki Humanistyczne provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The editorial board of Roczniki Humanistyczne is committed to ensuring the quality of articles and the credibility and transparency of the scientific process. We require that all parties involved – authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher – conform to the highest standards of ethical behaviour in each aspect of publication and at all stages of the reviewing and publication process. In particular, we make every effort to eliminate publication malpractices such as plagiarism, ghost-writing (where the real author is not listed as an author), and guest authorship (where there is stated authorship in the absence of involvement, also known as gift authorship). Our Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE, http://publicationethics.org) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. In addition, it is expected that all parties – authors, reviewers and editors – follow the best-practice guidelines concerning ethical behaviour contained therein.

A selection of the authors’, reviewers’, editors’, and the publisher’s key ethical responsibilities is presented below.

Authors’ Responsibilities

  1. Manuscripts submitted to Roczniki Humanistyczne  are expected to be original, authentic, unpublished and not under review by another journal. By submitting to Roczniki, the authors take responsibility for the legality and originality of their work.
  2. Each detected case of academic dishonesty, such as plagiarism or ghost-writing will be exposed and the relevant institution(s) will be notified. Authors are obliged to submit a signed declaration concerning plagiarism, ghost-writing, and guest authorship.
  3. Each manuscript submitted for publication should have a complete and accurate list of references in order to appropriately acknowledge the intellectual property of other persons referenced in the manuscript. Information obtained through conversation or in other informal ways cannot be used without the express written consent of its author.
  4. The funding sources of research whose results are presented in the manuscript should be fully acknowledged, and any potential conflicts of interest disclosed.
  5. It is the authors’ responsibility to obtain consent for the publication of other copyrighted parts of the manuscript, such as illustrations, photographs, etc. prior to publication.
  6. The manuscript submitted for publication should be formatted according to the template available in the Author Guidelines section.
  7. The authors are expected to cooperate with the editors in the reviewing and editing process, including responding to reviewers’ comments in a professional and timely manner.
  8. The author is obliged to notify the editor immediately about all major errors discovered in his or her publication. In cooperation with the editor and the publisher, an erratum or correction note will be published in the fascicle.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

  1. The reviewers cooperate with the editors in decision making throughout the reviewing and publication processes.
  2. The reviewers are committed to reviewing manuscripts in an unbiased way according to ethical standards and eschewing all personal comments, unscholarly criticism or offensive language, as well as refraining from direct author contact.
  3. All information about the review process should be kept confidential and be disclosed by the reviewers solely to the editor.
  4. The reviewers should accept only those manuscripts for whose reviewing they are competent to formulate their opinions without excessive delay.
  5. The task of the reviewers is to ensure that all manuscripts accepted for publication in Roczniki Humanistyczne are of relevant scientific value. To meet this goal, the reviewers should determine the actual scholarly merit, originality, and scope of the work, provide constructive criticism when needed, and recommend acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.
  6. The reviewers are obliged to alert the editors about any potential personal or financial conflict of interest and decline to review when such a conflict might be considered as existing. The relevant declaration form is available in the Peer Review Process section.
  7. The reviewers are obliged to notify the editors about ethical concerns, such as any violation of academic honesty by the authors of the submitted manuscripts, including plagiarism, ghost writing, and guest authorship.
  8. The reviewers provide written feedback on the review form available in the Peer Review Process section.

Editors’ Responsibilities

  1. The editors are responsible for all materials published in Roczniki Humanistyczne. Decisions on acceptance or rejection are based on the evaluation of the scientific value, originality, and clarity of the work as well as its correspondence with the thematic profile of the fascicle.
  2. The editors ensure that all submitted manuscripts being considered for publication undergo peer-review by at least two reviewers who are expert in the field.
  3. The submitted manuscripts are evaluated fairly, exclusively on the basis of their academic merit, without regard to the nationality, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political views of their authors.
  4. The editors and editorial staff of Roczniki Humanistyczne will not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding authors, reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher.
  5. The editors will take responsive measures when ethical concerns are raised with regard to submitted manuscripts or published papers. Every reported act of unethical publishing behaviour will be investigated. The editors follow the COPE Flowcharts when dealing with cases of suspected malpractice. If, upon investigation, the ethical concern is substantiated, a correction, retraction, expression of concern or other relevant note will be published in Roczniki Humanistyczne.

Publisher’s Responsibilities

  1. The publisher ensures that the journal’s most recent issue as well as archival issues are made available freely to all users via the journal website, in keeping with the open-access publishing policy of Roczniki Humanistyczne.
  2. The publisher is committed to the permanent availability and preservation of all published articles and ensures continuous accessibility by partnering with other abstracting and indexing databases and maintaining a digital archive.
  3. The publisher, together with the editors, shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of manuscripts where research misconduct has occurred, and under no circumstances encourage such misconduct or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place.
